Our Philosophy

The Spanish program begins in Pre K and goes all the way through Grade 8. Elementary students have one Spanish class per week and Middle School students have two Spanish classes per week. In 8 th grade, students will choose the world language (Latin or Spanish) During the course, students will develop/reinforce skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening through interactive activities and practices. The main goal is to communicate in the language, understand, and appreciate the diversity of cultures in the Spanish-speaking world.

Class will be primarily in Spanish with a goal of helping each student to develop listening skills. Fun and enjoyment are strategies used during this course. Interactive lessons, activities, songs and learning games will reinforce each lesson.

Course Learning Goals

  • To develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish through the use of learned vocabulary and grammatical concepts
  • To develop an understanding and appreciation of the Spanish/Latin American culture

Elementary

The Spanish Elementary course focuses primarily on vocabulary acquisition through stories, games, music and other activities. Students will be introduced to the Spanish alphabet and initial sounds. Each year vocabulary and difficulty will increase integrating more grammatical forms. Through out the year they will learn about Spanish/Latin American culture and holidays.

6th Grade

In this course, students will review basics of the Spanish language, geography and culture. They will start using learned vocabulary in constructing short dialogues in Spanish. Listening and reading skills will be reinforced.

7th Grade

Seventh grade students continue to learn vocabulary and grammar in order to increase their communication skills. They will keep developing skills in listening, reading, and constructing dialogues in Spanish. They will research and learn about Spanish-speaker’s contributions to North America.

8th Grade

The main purpose of this course is to prepare students for the high school World Language program.
